Biography

Carmen Longas Luque is a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer at Erasmus School of History, Culture, and Communication. Her doctoral research centered on how discourses of race and ethnicity are (re)constructed in Spanish sports media, with a particular focus on the context of football. In addition to analyzing content and discourses, she has explored production processes and audience receptions. Longas Luque led a research project that examined the role of sports heroes and their use among Spanish and Dutch youth, delving into issues of belongingness. Currently, her research investigates the processes of inclusion and exclusion within esports culture in the Netherlands, with a specific focus on race, ethnicity, and gender. As a lecturer, she teaches courses on media systems and quantitative and qualitative research methods to undergraduate and master's students, and she supervises their theses.
