Biography

Carmen Pavel specializes in political philosophy and history of political thought, with interests including philosophy of international law, liberal theory, and contemporary challenges in ethics and public policy. She received her PhD from Brown University and has served as a postdoctoral fellow and lecturer at the University of Virginia and the University of Arizona. At King's College London, Carmen directed the Politics, Philosophy, and Economics program from 2015 to 2018, where she contributed significantly to its redesign. She welcomes PhD supervision in areas such as philosophy of international law, constitutionalism, constitutional thought, ethics, public policy, and challenges to liberalism. Carmen has published two books with Oxford University Press, addressing crucial questions about sovereignty and the relationship between international law and constitutional democracies. In her teaching, she offers courses on morality, law, state, ethics, economics, and public policy.
