Biography

Carmen Vela, DNP, RN, CNE, is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Texas A&M College of Nursing. She holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Educational Leadership from American Sentinel University, attained in 2018. Vela has an extensive background in nursing education, having earned her Master of Science in Nursing Education in 2007 from Texas Tech University Health Science Center School of Nursing, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Lubbock Christian University in 2004. Her professional certifications include being a Registered Nurse licensed in Texas, as well as a Certified Nurse Educator. Vela has made significant contributions to nursing education through her research interests in curriculum design, test item development, distance nursing education, simulation nursing, and student success. She is also involved in various teaching interests including adult health nursing, medical-surgical nursing, critical care, and community health nursing. Vela has been recognized for her dedication to teaching and service, having been inducted into the Golden Key International Honor Society and Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society. She is active in professional organizations such as the American Nurses Association and the Texas Nurses Association.
