Biography

Carol Au is a Research Officer at the Dementia Research Centre at Macquarie University. She completed her PhD in Medicine at the University of Sydney, focusing on neonatal and pediatric health at the Children’s Hospital Westmead. Following her PhD, she pursued postdoctoral training at the University of California San Diego as part of an American Heart Association Fellowship. Upon returning to Australia, she worked at the Children’s Cancer Institute in Molecular Biosciences at UNSW Sydney. In 2017, she joined the Dementia Research Unit at UNSW and moved to Macquarie University in 2018 as part of a new Dementia Research Centre. Her research focuses on using tissue culture model systems and adeno-associated virus (AAV) technology to decipher the molecular pathomechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases, including Motor Neuron Disease, Frontotemporal Dementia, and Alzheimer’s Disease.
