Dr. Carol Dolan

Biography

Carol Dolan is a Clinical Professor at Boston University's School of Public Health in the Department of Community Health Sciences. Her research focuses on the social-contextual determinants of health and mental health. She directs the BUSPH Certificate in Mental Health and Substance Use and teaches various online courses related to mental health, including courses on stress and public health problems, trauma-informed care, and the core MPH courses on individual, community, and population health. Dolan has received several teaching awards, including the 2023 Teaching Innovation Award, and is dedicated to mentoring students interested in public health and mental health research. Her past projects include a study on the impact of mindfulness meditation on graduate students' wellness and the development of student team projects aimed at supporting trauma healing in public health settings. She has extensive experience in program evaluation and public health-based projects related to substance abuse and injury prevention. Previously, Dolan served as a research scientist with the Walter Reed Medical Research Unit, focusing on the effects of stress on deployed military personnel and counseling military families. She has also been recognized for her teaching excellence at the University of Maryland University College, demonstrating a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in her pedagogy and course offerings.
