Dr. Carol Loveland Cherry

Biography

Carol J. Loveland-Cherry is a Professor Emerita at the University of Michigan School of Nursing. Her extensive experience encompasses teaching, practice, and scholarly work in health promotion and risk reduction. Loveland-Cherry has focused her research on risk reduction strategies for families, children, preterm infants, and adolescents, with her studies funded by prominent institutions such as the National Institute on Drug Abuse and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. She emphasizes the development and testing of theory-based interventions for adolescents and their families. As an educator, she taught various programs including undergraduate, master's, doctoral, and post-doctoral courses in community health nursing, and served as the Director of the Division of Health Promotion and Risk Reduction Programs. Loveland-Cherry was also instrumental in establishing the Family Nurse Practitioner Career Program. Her professional affiliations include membership in the Midwest Nursing Research Society and the American Academy of Nursing, and she has been recognized for her contributions to nursing education and practice.
