Biography

Carol Ptacek conducts research on a variety of topics in contaminant hydrogeology and geochemistry, focusing on the mechanisms controlling the fate and transport of metals, nutrients, pathogens, and organic compounds in groundwater. She leads the Groundwater Geochemistry Remediation Group alongside David Blowes. Her research interests include the fate and transport of contaminants in groundwater, geochemical reactions and transformations of contaminants in the subsurface, threats to aquatic ecosystems, and the interaction of climate change with geosciences. Additionally, she addresses increasingly complex water challenges, protection of surface and groundwater resources, and remediation of water, soil, and air contamination.
