Dr. Carol Robinson

Biography

Carol Robinson holds the University Chair of Dr. Lee’s Professor of Chemistry and is the Director of the Kavli Institute for Nanoscience Discovery at Oxford University. She is recognized for establishing mass spectrometry as a viable technology to study the structure and interactions of protein complexes. Her collaborations span both academic and industrial laboratories, and in 2016, she contributed to the founding of OMass Technologies, a spin-out company that utilizes high-definition native mass spectrometry to develop drug therapies for immunologic and genetic disorders. After graduating from the University of Cambridge with a PhD, Carol took an eight-year career break to raise her children before becoming the first female Professor of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge from 2001 to 2009. She returned to Oxford in 2009 as Dr. Lee’s Chair of Chemistry, becoming the first female Professor of Chemistry at the university. Throughout her career, her research has garnered numerous international awards and distinctions, including the 2022 Benjamin Franklin Medal in Chemistry and the 2022 Louis Jeantet Prize in Medicine. She is an International Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences since 2021, and she was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2013 for her contributions to science and industry.
