Biography

Carola Venturini is a lecturer at the Sydney School of Veterinary Science with expertise in microbiology, focusing primarily on the role of mobile genetic elements in the evolution of multidrug-resistant bacterial pathogens. She commenced her studies in Natural Sciences at the University of Trieste (Italy) and graduated with distinction in Molecular Biology from the University of Wollongong (UOW). Carola completed her PhD investigating the relationship between antibiotic resistance and virulence in mobile DNA pathogenic enterobacteria. Her postdoctoral research at the University of Queensland and the Westmead Institute for Medical Research involved the study of horizontal gene transfer and the ecology of the gut microbiome in relation to antibiotic use. Carola's research interests include antimicrobial resistance control via bacteriophage use in animal settings, and her work aligns with the Faculty of Science's research strengths in understanding life on Earth and promoting healthy animals. She has held various teaching roles and supervised numerous undergraduate and postgraduate students. Her contributions to teaching have been recognized with awards for Outstanding Teaching and Learning.
