Dr. Carole Estabrooks

Biography

Carole Estabrooks is a Professor at the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Nursing. She has an extensive academic and research background, significantly contributing to knowledge translation and implementation science, particularly in long-term care and aging. Estabrooks leads the Knowledge Utilization Studies Program and has been involved in principal investigator roles for multiple major research initiatives, focusing on improving the care environment for older adults, particularly those living with dementia. Her teaching includes mentorship of undergraduates, graduates, and postdoctoral fellows, emphasizing knowledge translation, research design, and health policy. Awards include the J. Gordin Kaplan Award for Excellence in Research from the University of Alberta and induction as a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, the American Academy of Nursing, and the Royal Society of Canada. Her research encompasses the effects of organizational context on knowledge translation within long-term care settings and assessing the impact of COVID-19 on these facilities. She has published numerous articles on topics related to nursing care quality and staff well-being in residential settings, and is recognized for driving research that informs policy and practice in healthcare.
