Carole Holahan is a Professor Emerita in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Education at The University of Texas at Austin. She studies adult development and aging, focusing on psychosocial predictors of health behavior, successful aging, and women's health. Her research has examined the role of depressive symptoms and social contextual factors on smoking behaviors within the Women's Health Initiative Observational Study and has investigated the psychosocial factors influencing health attitudes and health promotion across adult life. Holahan also contributed significantly to the Terman Study of Gifted, a major longitudinal study in social and behavioral sciences, and is a lead author of the book "Gifted Group Maturity" published by Stanford University Press. She is a fellow of the American Psychological Association and the Association for Psychological Science, and a member of the Gerontological Society of America. Holahan earned her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1976. Her publications include numerous articles focused on relationships between health-enhancing behaviors and aging, as well as collaborative longitudinal research on women’s health and successful aging.
