Dr. Carole Maldonado Codina

Biography

Carole Maldonado-Codina is a Reader in Optometry and Associate Director at Eurolens Research, based at the University of Manchester, UK. She holds a Bachelor's degree with Honors and a Master's degree from Aston University, and a PhD obtained at UMIST. As the principal investigator on multiple industry-funded projects, Carole's expertise lies in the area of contact lenses, particularly focusing on the characterization of contact lens materials and the ocular response to contact lens wear. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and the British Contact Lens Association, and has served on various committees including the International Association of Contact Lens Educators. Her research critically examines the interactions between contact lenses and the ocular surface, aiming to improve biocompatibility of future materials. Carole's work also involves teaching and advancing knowledge in optometry, contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals through education. She has organized international conferences and engaged in collaborative research efforts within her field.
