Biography

Carolin E. Frueh is an Associate Professor in the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Purdue University. She received her Ph.D. in Physics with a specialization in Astronomy from the University of Bern, Switzerland in 2011. Prior to that, she obtained her Master's degree in Science from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany in 2006, and also holds a Master of Divinity from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, USA. Dr. Frueh's research focuses on Space Domain Awareness, Space Traffic Management, and surveillance in the Near-Earth Cislunar Region. She has expertise in optical characterization of objects, astrodynamics, and low observability systems. Her work in machine learning has contributed to advancements in information quantification and retrieval. She has received several accolades for her contributions to academia, including becoming a Fellow of the American Astronomical Society in 2024 and an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics in the same year, as well as receiving the C. T. Sun Excellence Research Award and the Elmer F. Bruhn Teaching Award for her dedication to teaching and research.
