Biography

Carolina Pantoliano is an early career researcher and award-winning teacher specializing in the politics of nuclear weapons, arms control, and disarmament. She employs feminist, poststructuralist, and postcolonial approaches to examine global politics, particularly international security and global governance. Carolina joined the University of Glasgow in October 2024 as a Research Associate in Nuclear Arms Control and Disarmament, where she collaborates with Dr. Rhys Crilley to deliver innovative research with an impact on nuclear politics and international security. She is a member of the Atomic Anxiety and Nuclear Age team, leading projects that involve a global mapping exercise on how states, civil society, media, and the public frame issues of nuclear weapons and arms control. Prior to her position at Glasgow, Carolina was a Teaching Fellow in Global Governance at the University of Auckland. She completed her PhD at the University of Auckland in 2024, focusing on the emergence of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) through feminist, poststructural, and postcolonial lenses. Carolina has published her research in leading academic journals such as International Affairs and Contemporary Security Policy, and she is currently writing a book on related topics. She is also a member of the Nuclear Deterrence Working Group, part of the Rethinking Deterrence Research Network, housed at Harvard University’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs.
