Biography

Carolina Vasilikou is an Assistant Professor in Architecture and Design at the Department of Architecture at the University of Cambridge and a member of the Future Observatory, the Design Museum's national research programme on green transition. Her research interests lie at the intersection of lived experience and inclusive sensory environments, wayfinding, and participatory design-making practices. She is an expert reviewer for the Swedish National Research Council on Sustainable Development, advocating for systemic and adaptive approaches within architecture education and practice, focusing on putting the planet, people, and places at the center of spatial design. With over ten years of experience in the UK, she teaches and supervises undergraduate and postgraduate courses, with current research focusing on sensory and participatory literacies related to the climate emergency and underserved communities. Before joining the University of Cambridge, she was part of the Continuity Atelier at Manchester School of Architecture, leading Masters courses and design studios while focusing on Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion strategies. Carolina earned her degree in Architecture and Urban Design from NTUA (Greece), an MSc in Engineering from the University of Bath (UK), and a PhD in Sustainable Architecture from the University of Kent (UK). She is currently a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and is passionate about exploring creative spatial practices and inclusive public participation in architectural design.
