Biography

Caroline Atkinson is a Conjoint Lecturer at the University of New South Wales and has an extensive background in cancer research. She completed her Doctorate of Philosophy at Griffith University in 2016, following a Master of Medical Research in 2011 and a Bachelor of Biomedical Science in 2008, all from the same institution. Atkinson's early career was marked by her role as a post-doctoral researcher at the Children's Cancer Institute, where she focused on the role of cellular prion protein in chemotherapeutic resistance associated with colorectal and breast cancers. After completing her PhD, she joined the Mater Research Institute in 2016, where she assessed the ATM DNA damage response signaling in melanoma. In 2017, Atkinson relocated to Sydney and has since been involved in projects aimed at improving outcomes for patients with high-risk neuroblastoma. Her research interests include the functional consequences of recurrent mutations and the delineation of resistance mechanisms in cancer treatment.
