Biography

Caroline Burt is a medieval historian with research interests focused on the reigns of Edward I (1272-1307) and Edward II (1307-27), with a particular emphasis on ideas surrounding governance and the practical implementation of royal authority and policy in England. She has published several articles and a monograph titled 'Edward Governance England, 1272-1307' through Cambridge University Press. In 2015, she published an article summarizing her research on Edward II, offering new perspectives on his reign. Her latest book, 'Arise England: Six Kings Making English State, 1199-1399,' received Newton Trust sabbatical funding in 2015-16 and is set for publication by Faber & Faber in 2023-4. Currently, she is working on a major new monograph about the Lancasters (1267-1399). Caroline is also available for consultancy and is open to considering proposals for research in thirteenth and fourteenth century British history. She teaches Part 3 and 8 papers, focusing on medieval British political, social, and economic history from 1050-1500, and supervises undergraduate dissertations.
