Biography

Caroline Catmur is a Reader in Cognitive Psychology at King’s College London, specializing in the psychological neural mechanisms underpinning social cognitive abilities such as imitation, empathy, and theory of mind. She joined King’s College London in August 2015, where her research employs brain stimulation techniques to investigate the neural bases of social interaction, particularly focusing on how social experiences influence the development of the brain's mirror neuron system. Prior to her tenure at King’s, she served as a Lecturer in Cognitive Psychology at the University of Surrey. Caroline obtained her PhD in Psychology from University College London and her BA in Experimental Psychology from the University of Oxford. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has received numerous research grants from organizations such as the Royal Society and the Wellcome Trust. Her significant contributions to the field were recognized in 2015 when she was awarded the Philip Leverhulme Prize in Psychology by the Leverhulme Trust.
