Dr. Caroline Elkins

Biography

Caroline Elkins is a Professor of History at Harvard University and a noted scholar in the fields of African Studies and African American Studies. She is recognized for her critical examination of the history of British colonialism in Africa, particularly her work on the Mau Mau Uprising in Kenya. Elkins authored the Pulitzer Prize-winning book, 'Imperial Reckoning: The Untold Story of Britain's Gulag in Kenya,' which details the experiences of Kenyans during this tumultuous period. Her subsequent publication, 'Legacy of Violence: A History of the British Empire,' was nominated for the Baillie Gifford Prize and recognized as one of the New York Times Notable 100 Books of 2022. Elkins has also contributed to several media outlets and has made appearances on prominent networks such as BBC, CNN, and NPR.
