Dr. Caroline Jay

Biography

Caroline Jay is a prominent academic in the field of Computer Science, specializing in Human-Computer Interaction and Software Engineering. She holds a BA and is a qualified Psychologist and possesses MSc and PhD degrees in Computer Science. As the Head of Research at the School of Engineering at the University of Manchester, she leads research initiatives that bridge the gap between psychology and computer science. With a strong advocacy for open and reproducible science, Caroline founded the Manchester arm of the BBC Data Science Research Partnership. She has contributed significantly to research themes under the 'Digital Futures' initiative, focusing on human-centered design. In recognition of her achievements, she was named one of the Guardian's Top 50 Women in Engineering in 2022. Caroline's research interests include software engineering, human-computer interaction, health sciences, and their implications for sustainable development, particularly as related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. She is actively involved in various research projects that incorporate artificial intelligence and data science, aimed at enhancing the integration of technologies into everyday life and improving health care outcomes.
