Biography

Caroline McCaffrey-Howarth is an art historian and curator specializing in visual material cultures of early modern Europe. She lectures on French and British history of art from 1650 to 1900, focusing on material culture and design. Caroline previously worked as a curator for 1600-1800 ceramics and glass at the Victoria and Albert Museum and as a lecturer in history of design at the Royal College of Art and V&A. She is the author of upcoming books including 'Lady Charlotte Schreiber' with Lund Humphries in 2024 and 'Sèvres-mania: Craft Ceramics Connoisseurship' with Bloomsbury Academic in 2025. Caroline obtained her PhD from the University of Leeds in 2019 and is currently a Visiting Research Fellow at the School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies, where she co-supervises PhD students. She serves as a trustee for several institutions including the French Porcelain Society. Caroline has published numerous articles and has extensive consultancy experience in ceramics collections.
