Biography

Caroline Morley is an Associate Professor in the Department of Astronomy at the University of Texas at Austin. Her research primarily focuses on the atmospheres of exoplanets, including terrestrial planets similar to Earth and giant planets more massive than Jupiter. She earned her Bachelor's degrees in Physics and Earth, Atmosphere, and Planetary Sciences from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2010, followed by her PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics from the University of California, Santa Cruz, in 2016. Since joining UT Austin in 2018, she has been actively engaged in exploring the potential for extraterrestrial life as well as the study of brown dwarfs and extrasolar planets. Morley is involved with significant research committees, including the Steering Committee for the Gemini Planet Imager and the Space Telescope Users Committee. She has also served as a journal referee for various scientific publications and participated in NASA review panels. In recognition of her contributions to astronomy, she received the Annie Jump Cannon Award from the American Astronomical Society in 2020.
