Caroline Samer obtained her medical degree in Geneva in 2001, specializing in internal medicine, clinical pharmacology, and toxicology. She completed her PhD in pharmacogenomics and subsequently pursued a post-doctoral fellowship in molecular pharmacology in Sydney. In 2009, she returned to Hôpital Universitaire de Genève (HUG) as a senior clinical associate and attending physician, later becoming the Head of the Therapeutic Information Centre in the Division of Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology. In 2019, she took on the responsibility of the Pharmacogenomics Personalized Therapy Unit, and in October 2022, she was appointed as the Head of the Division of Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology at HUG. Her research focuses on personalizing drug therapy to enhance safety through a precision medicine approach, which includes measuring gene-environment-disease interactions at the pharmacokinetic level and leveraging advances in omic technologies, particularly in pharmacogenomics. Caroline is actively involved in several professional societies, serving as President of the Swiss Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology (SSPTC), Vice-President of the Swissethics Research Ethics Committee for the Canton of Geneva (CCER), and as a member of the Executive Committee of the International Union of Clinical and Fundamental Pharmacology (IUPHAR) and the Council of International Organizations of Medical Sciences (CIOMS). She was promoted to associate professor in the academic Department of Anaesthesiology, Pharmacology, Intensive Care Emergencies in 2022, and on July 15, 2023, she became a delegate in the Dean's Office of the UNIGE Faculty of Medicine for data issues.
