Biography

Musician and engineer by training, I conduct research and teach in the fields of musical acoustics, organology, psychoacoustics, and music computing. Since my appointment at the Faculty of Music, I have actively engaged in the development of several academic sectors, from electroacoustic composition to musicology. I have a particular interest in the study of musical practices and research-creation, both in interpretation and composition, and in interdisciplinary approaches in the sciences and technologies of music, as well as in the transfer of knowledge between scientific and artistic communities. I initiated the minor and major programs in digital music that started in 2008, and I also work towards developing an interdisciplinary, experimental, and systematic musicology. I lead the Research Laboratory on Musician Gesture and am a member of the Interdisciplinary Observatory for Music Creation and Research (OICRM), the Interdisciplinary Research Center in Music, Media and Technologies (CIRMMT), and the International Laboratory for Research on Brain, Music and Sound (BRAMS). My research focuses specifically on the study of musical instrument timbre and the relationships between the physical characteristics of instruments, instrumental gesture parameters, and perceptual attributes of instrumental sounds.
