Biography

Carolyn Drake works on long-term photo-based projects, seeking to interrogate dominant historical narratives and creatively reimagine practice. Her work embraces collaboration, and in recent years, has melded photography with sewing, collage, and sculpture. Drake is interested in collapsing the traditional divide between author and subject, as well as the real and imaginary, and challenging entrenched binaries. Throughout her career, she has received numerous accolades including the Guggenheim Fellowship, Henri Cartier Bresson Award, Peter S. Reed Foundation grant, Lange Taylor Prize, and a Fulbright fellowship, among others. Drake has represented her projects through Yancey Richardson Gallery and Magnum Photos.
