Biography

Carolyn Logan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at Michigan State University and the Director of Analysis for Afrobarometer, a collaborative survey research project that conducts public opinion research on democracy and governance across 20 African countries. She joined Afrobarometer in 2001 and became part of the Political Science faculty in 2004 after earning her Ph.D. in International Relations from the Fletcher School at Tufts University in 2002. Logan's research focuses on democratization and political development in Africa, particularly regarding East Africa, the Horn of Africa, and Somaliland. She is especially interested in the role of traditional leaders and institutions in the democratization process, as well as the societal attitudes of African publics towards governance.
