Biography

Carolyn M. Macica is the Associate Director of Research Operations Development at Connecticut Children’s Research Institute. She holds joint professor appointments at Frank H. Netter School of Medicine and Yale University School of Medicine in the Department of Pharmacology. Dr. Macica has served as a consultant for Ultragenyx in identifying clinical endpoints for adult X-linked hypophosphatemia. Her work intertwines commitment to medical education with excellence in basic, clinical, and translational research in the area of phosphate-wasting disorders. Her scholarship includes research presentations at national and international meetings as well as publications in peer-reviewed medical journals. In 2022, she received the Faculty Scholars Award from Quinnipiac University for her high level of commitment to outstanding scholarship. Dr. Macica's lab has provided valuable insights into the pathogenesis of bony abnormalities in adults with these disorders through murine models and controlled patient studies. She mentors medical and graduate students in a variety of scholarly domains and is known for her interprofessional research mentorship with faculty and students from multiple healthcare professions. Furthermore, she has extensive service commitments to various institutes and the Yale Center for Research Engagement Steering Committee. Dr. Macica has created and funded STEM mentoring programs for socio-economically disadvantaged children, recognized by Quinnipiac’s Inclusion Diversity Council. She also founded and executes the interprofessional Rare Disease Day Symposium, which showcases patients, advocates, clinicians, and researchers. Additionally, she serves as an academic advisor for the student chapter of the National Organization for Rare Diseases and is the Chairperson of the Scientific Advisory Board for XLH Network, Inc.
