Biography

After completing her Ph.D. at the University of London in 1975 under the supervision of the late Dr. G. F. Nuttall, Carolyn Polizzotto began her teaching career as a postgraduate student in the Department of History at the University of Melbourne. She joined the University of Western Australia (UWA) in 1989 and eventually became an Honorary Research Fellow, later promoted to Senior Honorary Research Fellow in 1996. Her primary research focus is Early Modern British History, with a specific emphasis on Puritanism in England and New England during the Civil War and Interregnum periods. Polizzotto is recognized for her cited articles on liberty of conscience published between 1975 and 1987, and has a notable publication record in Australian immigrant history and Australian industrial history. She has received national literary fellowships from the Australia Council and won the Creative Development Fund Award from the Government of Western Australia in 2001. Her memoir, Pomegranate Season, was awarded the Western Australian Premier’s Award in 1998. Currently, she is engaged in the re-examination of the Army Debates in Whitehall from December 1648 to January 1649 and is investigating the political and religious context of the English language book published in America, known as the Bay Psalm Book, from 1640.
