Dr. Carolyn Sampselle

Biography

Carolyn M. Sampselle is a Professor Emerita at the University of Michigan School of Nursing. She is recognized for her dedicated research on self-management and the prevention and treatment of urinary incontinence among women, emphasizing community-based approaches and partnerships. Over a career spanning more than 15 years, Dr. Sampselle has led four randomized clinical trials and authored over eighty peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. She has served as the founding member of the periodical 'Woman: Essential Guide to Healthy Living' and received the Pathfinder Award from the Friends of the National Institute of Nursing Research for her contributions to women's health. Dr. Sampselle holds multiple affiliations with professional bodies, including the American Nurses Association and the American Academy of Nursing. In her teaching role, she has primarily mentored graduate-level nursing students, including doctoral candidates who have received notable awards such as the UM Rackham Distinguished Dissertation Award in 2010. Her commitment to nursing education is grounded in the belief in creating collaborative learning experiences.
