Dr. Carolyn Stephens

Biography

Carolyn Stephens is a Professor of Environmental Ethics at the University of Primorska in Slovenia. She has an extensive academic background with a BA and MA in English Literature from the University of Cambridge, an MSc from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, and a PhD in Environmental Epidemiology from the University of London. She served as a Reader in Ecology and Global Health at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and has held honorary professorships at University College London, where she teaches courses focused on health policy, public health ethics, and the intersections of health and globalization. Throughout her career, she has been recognized with multiple awards, including the Royal Society Kohn Award for Excellence in Public Engagement and the Mayor of London Academic Excellence Award for Public Engagement. A fellow by distinction of the Faculty of Public Health Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians, she has been active in various capacities, including serving on ethical advisory boards and peer review colleges. Her research interests encompass the complexities of urban environments, health, and socioeconomic factors, with significant experience in international contexts, including collaborative projects in Ghana and Brazil.
