Dr. Cars Hommes

Biography

Cars Hommes obtained his PhD in Mathematical Economics from the University of Groningen and serves as a Professor of Economic Dynamics at the University of Amsterdam. He established the Center for Nonlinear Dynamics in Economics and Finance (CeNDEF) through a prestigious Pionier grant from the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO). Hommes has held visiting positions at renowned institutions such as the University of Wisconsin, Stanford University, and New York University. He is recognized for his influential research on behavioral theory and heterogeneous expectations in economics and finance and has been a pioneer in the fields of Behavioral and Experimental Macroeconomics. His contributions have been featured in various scholarly articles, including a Handbook on Computational Economics where he co-authored a chapter on Heterogeneous Agents Models. He has been an editor for multiple international journals, including the Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control. Recently, he has been involved in applying behavioral macro models for policy analysis with the Bank of Canada. Hommes is also the author of the book 'Behavioral Rationality and Heterogeneous Expectations in Complex Economic Systems,' published by Cambridge University Press in 2013. His work has received funding from several prestigious grants including the European Commission and Institute of New Economic Thinking, highlighting his significant impact on the field of economics.
