Dr. Carson Schütze

Biography

Carson Schütze is an Emeritus Research Professor in the Department of Linguistics at the University of California, Los Angeles. He earned his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1997. His research interests encompass various aspects of syntax, including A-syntax, morphology, structural licensing, and case. He also explores Germanic morpho-syntax, early acquisition of syntax and morphology, and sentence processing. Schütze is notable for his work on linguistic methodology and music cognition, contributing significantly to the fields of generative syntax and the cognitive processes underlying language. In addition to his research, Schütze is involved in teaching and has authored several textbooks in linguistics, including "Contemporary Linguistics: Introduction, 7th edition", and "Syntax: A Generative Introduction, 4th edition". His work is recognized for addressing both theoretical and practical aspects of linguistic studies, making significant impacts in the academic community.
