Carsten Dominik is a full professor at the University of Amsterdam, affiliated with the Faculty of Science at the Anton Pannekoek Institute for Astronomy. He obtained his PhD in 1992 from Technical University Berlin, focusing on dust-driven winds in Red Giants. He has held postdoctoral positions at NASA Ames and was an NRC Research Fellow at Leiden University before joining the Anton Pannekoek Institute in 1999. Between 2006 and 2014, he held a special professorship at Radboud University Nijmegen. Currently, he is the Principal Investigator for the NWO TOP-1 proposal on planet formation in protoplanetary disks. Carsten's research predominantly revolves around protoplanetary disks, exoplanets, and solar system objects, aiming to understand the physics of planet formation processes occurring within these disks and the relationships to the architectures of planetary systems that have been discovered so far. He focuses on visual submillimeter wavelengths, utilizing high-contrast, high-spatial resolution imaging to observe dust particles in disks and studying how dust grains aggregate into planets and comets. In addition to his research, Carsten teaches introductory courses on Astronomy and Astrophysics at the undergraduate level, including classes on Star and Planet Formation and Exoplanets.
