Biography

Carsten Flohr studied at Cambridge and Oxford Universities, training in paediatrics and dermatology. He was a Clinician Scientist for the UK National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) from 2009 to 2014 and held a Career Development Fellowship with NIHR from 2014 to 2020. Currently, he holds the Chair in Dermatology at King's College London, where he leads research at the St John's Institute of Dermatology. His primary focus is on population-based dermatology research and clinical trials targeting atopic eczema. Flohr is the Chief Investigator for several major clinical studies, including the NIHR-funded TREAT trial, which compares the effectiveness of ciclosporine and methotrexate in treating recalcitrant atopic eczema in children. He also heads the UK-Irish A-STAR registry and explores the interactions between the host, skin, and gut microbiome in inflammatory skin diseases. Committed to collaboration, he leads the International League of Dermatological Societies’ Global Atopic Dermatitis Atlas project and is recognized as a founding director of the International Eczema Council. With numerous publications to his credit, including groundbreaking research on eczema management, he has contributed significantly to the field of dermatology through both advocacy and clinical leadership.
