Biography

Carsten holds a PhD in Economics from Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, Spain. Before joining the University of Glasgow, he worked at the New Economic School at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow, Russia. Carsten has spent research visits at the CESifo Institute in Munich in 2017 and at the Bank of Finland Institute for Emerging Economies (BOFIT), becoming a CESifo Research Network affiliate. He is involved in the School's Finance research cluster, focusing on corporate governance, corporate finance, and ownership structure of firms as well as finance for endowments and foundations, particularly in relation to the Russian economy. His applied research areas examine the characteristics of CEOs and their impact on corporate decisions and performance, including financial spending decisions made by charitable foundations and endowments. His research project funded by the Potanin Fund, titled 'Endowments Crises', runs from 2020 to 2022. Carsten teaches various courses at the Adam Smith Business School, contributing to both undergraduate and graduate programs.
