Biography

Cassandra Hayne is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Chicago. She completed her Postdoctoral Fellowship in Biochemistry & Structural Biology at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in 2022. Hayne received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2017 and her B.A./B.S. in Biochemistry & Biology from the University of Northern Iowa in 2011. She has been recognized with several awards including the Graduate Research Fellowship from the National Science Foundation in 2013 and the MOSAIC K99/R00 award from NIGMS/NIH in 2021. Hayne's research focuses on structural-functional characterization of nucleases associated with Pontocerebellar Hypoplasia, where she serves as the Principal Investigator on a funded project (R00GM143534).
