Biography

Cassidy D’Aloia is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Toronto. She completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at Middlebury College and earned her PhD from Boston University. D’Aloia has undertaken postdoctoral research at both the University of Toronto and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Her research is fundamentally oriented towards molecular ecology, examining coastal fishes and invertebrates with a particular interest in understanding the patterns, causes, and consequences of dispersal and gene flow in marine environments. Current projects in her lab explore historical and contemporary factors that influence the distribution of genetic variation in natural populations, the kin structure within marine populations, and the application of genomic data to promote sustainable fisheries and marine conservation. Her diverse group combines theoretical approaches with fieldwork and genomics to investigate a range of topics, including research on coral reef fishes, temperate fishes, molluscs, and echinoderms. Cassidy is currently accepting MSc and PhD students, inviting interested applicants to submit their CV and a cover letter detailing their research interests and academic experiences.
