Dr. Cassie Hazelip

Biography

Cassie Hazelip is a lecturer and associate research scholar at Yale Law School, where she works with the Mental Health Justice Clinic. She holds a Juris Doctor from the City University of New York (CUNY) obtained in 2019 and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan earned in 2012. Over the past five years, Hazelip has represented parents in family court and has gained valuable experience as an intern with the Neighborhood Defender Service and Brooklyn Defender Services. In her role as a staff attorney and supervisor at the Family Defense Practice, Bronx Defenders, she has effectively advocated for vulnerable families. Hazelip has also contributed to legal scholarship as a member of the Law Review during her time in law school, focusing on issues of public benefits and parole. Additionally, she served as an intern at the Mental Hygiene Legal Service at the Manhattan Psychiatric Center and the Knox County Public Defender’s Community Law Office. Prior to her legal career, she was a Peace Corps volunteer, where she worked as an outreach worker for individuals experiencing street homelessness.
