Biography

Cassius Iyad Ochoa Chaar, MD, MPH, MS, is an Associate Professor of Vascular Surgery at Yale School of Medicine. He is board-certified in general and vascular surgery and a registered vascular specialist known for his extensive clinical expertise in vascular diseases such as peripheral artery disease (PAD), varicose veins, and aortic visceral aneurysms. Dr. Chaar completed his MD at the American University of Beirut in 2002, followed by a residency in general surgery and a fellowship in vascular and endovascular surgery at Yale-New Haven Hospital and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, respectively. Recently, he earned a Master of Public Health from Yale School of Public Health in 2023, focusing on chronic disease epidemiology. His research interests cover clinical genetics in vascular disease, applications of artificial intelligence in vascular care, and smoking cessation strategies for vascular patients. Dr. Chaar is dedicated to mentoring MD/PhD students in surgical outcomes research and quality improvement in surgical therapies. He has been recognized with the John N. Forrest, Jr. Mentorship Award and the Charles W. Bohmfalk Prize for teaching excellence.
