Biography

Cat Acheson is a postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Edinburgh in the School of Social and Political Science, funded by a Wellcome project titled 'After Single Use: Rethinking Plastics Healthcare'. Her research focuses on global initiatives aimed at transitioning away from single-use toxic plastics in healthcare, particularly emphasizing the role of intergovernmental organizations and civil society. Currently, she is conducting research on Global Plastics Treaty negotiations. Cat completed her PhD at the University of East Anglia in 2024 within the Science, Society and Sustainability (3S) research group in the School of Environmental Sciences. She has a background in intersectional climate justice and grassroots innovations. Additionally, Cat holds a Master’s degree in Environment, Culture and Communication and an MA with Honors in English Literature, both from the University of Glasgow. In 2023, she was a Visiting Research Fellow at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and has previously collaborated with Zero Waste Scotland as part of the sustainability team at University of London.
