Professor Dr. Catalina Cherñavvsky Sequeira

Biography

Catalina is a PhD candidate in the Department of Art History and the Center for Latin American Visual Studies (CLAVIS) at the University of Texas at Austin. Her research focuses on experimental film, video, and performance in Argentina and Brazil during the latter half of the 20th century. She specifically examines transregional artistic networks and the systems of circulation, as well as the phenomenological shifts that occurred under authoritarian regimes. Catalina's dissertation investigates women-led artist groups that utilize compact film and video formats to explore reclaimed and reconceptualized spaces on the filmic screen.
