Biography

Catarina Fouto studied Classics at the University of Lisbon, obtaining an MA in Medieval Studies, followed by a DPhil in Renaissance Portuguese from the University of Oxford. She held a post at the University of Oxford and co-directed the Instituto Camões Centre. Since 2011, she has served as a lecturer in Portuguese Studies at King's College London. Fouto is a member of the international research group Seminario de Poética Europea del Renacimiento, based at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, and she is on the editorial board of the journal Portuguese Studies. Her research interests include the medieval and early-modern periods, with a focus on literary theory, the history of the book and censorship, and postcolonial cultural studies. At King's, she teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Portuguese Studies, covering a range of topics from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century, and she has developed modules in her areas of expertise. Fouto collaborates with colleagues on co-taught modules that include medieval and early modern topics.
