Dr. Catharina Olsson

Biography

Catharina Olsson is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Gothenburg, specializing in the control of gastrointestinal motility in vertebrates, with a focus on fish. Her research employs various methodologies including immunohistochemistry and fluorescent dyes, along with both in vitro and in vivo physiological-pharmacological techniques. Olsson's work emphasizes the characterization of motility patterns influenced by both internal regulatory systems and external factors such as food intake, temperature, and salinity. Through the use of video microscopy, she has contributed significantly to the understanding of gut motility development. She holds an MSc in Biology and a PhD in Zoophysiology from the University of Gothenburg, and has been actively involved in both academic teaching and research coordination since her permanent position began in May 2011. Olsson's publication record includes numerous peer-reviewed articles in prominent journals, highlighting her active engagement in advancing knowledge in her field.
