Biography

Catharine Abell is a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Oxford. She specializes in Aesthetics and has a long history of academic engagement with philosophy of art, language, and mind. Abell completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Adelaide, followed by an Honours degree in Philosophy. She earned her PhD from Flinders University. She has held visiting appointments at institutions such as EHESS in Paris, the University of Sydney, and the University of British Columbia. In 2020, she published a book titled 'Fiction' with Oxford University Press, which explores the nature of fiction as a social practice and contributes original insights into the interpretation of fictional entities.
