Catharine Gale graduated with a 1st class degree in Population Studies from the University of Southampton. She obtained a Medical Research Council studentship and completed her PhD exploring the role of antioxidant vitamins in cerebrovascular disease and cognitive decline at the MRC Environmental Epidemiology Unit, which is now known as the MRC Lifecourse Epidemiology Unit at the University of Southampton. Currently, she leads work on cognitive function within the five programmes of research at the MRC Lifecourse Epidemiology Unit. In 2012, she was appointed part-time Reader in Cognitive Epidemiology in the Department of Psychology at the University of Edinburgh. Gale is also a co-leader of the Cognitive Epidemiology research group at the Centre for Cognitive Ageing and Cognitive Epidemiology at the University of Edinburgh. In addition to her research, she engages in undergraduate teaching, where she teaches a 4th year option on ‘Intelligence, Personality and Health’ and lectures on cognitive epidemiology in the MSc module ‘Cognitive Ageing and Cognitive Epidemiology’. Furthermore, she serves as the Convenor of the Psychology Ethics Committee and provides supervision for PhD students in her field.
