Biography

Professor Catherine (Lindsay) Anderson is the Department Chair of Biological and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University. Her research focuses on energy system decarbonization, interface environmental systems engineering, electric power systems, and applied optimization decision science. Lindsay serves as the interim Director of the Cornell Energy Systems Institute and has held the position of Kathy Dwyer Marble Curt Marble Faculty Director of Energy at the Cornell Atkinson Center for Sustainability. She obtained her B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Guelph and a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Western Ontario. Her ongoing research includes projects on mitigating wind generation uncertainty using renewable energy sources and studying the cost implications of wind energy uncertainty on existing power systems. She has received multiple awards for her contributions and excellence in energy systems optimization and teaching, including the NSF CAREER Award and the College of Engineering Award for Research Excellence.
