Biography

Catherine Burger, MD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics. She graduated from the University of Michigan and then attended the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Gold Humanism Honor Society. Following her graduation, she completed her emergency medicine residency training at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC), where she also served as Chief Resident and became a Clinical Instructor. After five years at VUMC, she completed a two-year fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine and earned board certification in the field. Dr. Burger has held various leadership roles, including Assistant Program Director for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program. In 2025, she joined Duke's Department of Emergency Medicine as Associate Program Director. Throughout her career, she has focused on bedside teaching, curriculum development, and mentorship, earning multiple awards for her teaching, including the John Judy Jean Chapman Award for Outstanding Teaching and the Annual Pediatric Emergency Department Faculty Teaching Award.
