Biography

Catherine Ellis specializes in the political, social, and intellectual history of modern Britain, with a focus on the influence of children and youth culture in postwar political life. Her research has been published in various journals and edited volumes, including the 'Palgrave Handbook on Rethinking Colonial Commemorations' (2023) and 'Mass Observing the Coronation of Charles III: Monarchy, Spectacle, Experience' (2025). She teaches courses related to modern Britain and the histories of children and youth. Additionally, Ellis has co-chaired the Standing Strong Task Force, which addressed the legacies of the university's namesake, Egerton Ryerson, and remains actively engaged in initiatives at Toronto Metropolitan University. In recognition of her contributions, she received the President's Blue and Gold Award for Excellence in 2022. Currently, she is also serving as the Interim Chair of the Department of Criminology.
