Catherine Evans is currently the Deputy Head of the School (Learning Teaching) at UNSW School of Built Environment. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has served as the Director of the UNSW Landscape Architecture Program twice, from 2004 to 2006 and again from 2015 to 2018. Catherine has also chaired the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects National Education Committee from 2018 to 2021. She represents the School of Built Environment on the Steering Committee of the Sustainable Cities and Landscapes Hub of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities and has been actively involved in a working group since 2018. Joining UNSW in 2000, Catherine previously worked as a consultant in the Sydney area focusing on heritage landscapes, having been a Historical Landscape Architect with the Olmsted Centre for Landscape Preservation at the National Park Service. Her research interests include the performance of designed landscapes and evolving planning approaches for urban parks and green spaces, emphasizing sustainability and design effectiveness. She teaches courses on environment and design history as part of the Landscape Architecture Program.
