Biography

Catherine Gorle is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University, with a courtesy appointment in Mechanical Engineering. She obtained her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Aerospace Engineering from Delft University of Technology in 2002 and 2005, respectively, and completed her PhD in Environmental Applied Fluid Dynamics at the von Karman Institute in 2010. Following her doctoral studies, she held a postdoctoral fellow position at the Center for Turbulence Research at Stanford University and received the Pegasus Marie Curie fellowship. Her research primarily focuses on developing predictive flow simulations to support the design of sustainable buildings and cities, with particular attention to coupling large- and small-scale models, quantifying uncertainties related to variability in boundary conditions, and developing uncertainty quantification methods for low-fidelity models using high-fidelity data. Gorle also uses field measurements to validate and improve computational predictions, contributing significantly to advancements in the field of environmental engineering.
